Ooh la la

I'm not sure if it's my unwavering love of the breton top, or my impending move to Paris but as you'll have probably noticed from my past few posts, I have all things French on the brain. Be it the status of French Vogue slowly creeping up to the top spot in my favourite publications list (others include Lula, Russh, The Gentlewoman & British Vogue) or my addiction to a range of French based brands such as A.P.C, Zadig & Voltaire, Comptoir des Cotonniers and Isabel Marant, for me, French style still reigns as the epitome of chic. There's no simpler (or more elegant) outfit than a breton top tucked into high waisted navy trousers with a pair of two tone ballet flats à la Coco Chanel. The French style embodies a simple, understated mode of dressing without forgoing a certain edginess. Take Lou Doillon (daughter of pseudo-French style perpetrator Jane Birkin) who manages to still look elegant whilst evidently never having seen a hairbrush in her life. The look is grownup and womanly (therefore conforming to the autumn/winter's Phoebe Philo philosophy) yet still playful. My current girl crush (and Lula regular) is fresh faced beauty Clémence Poésy whose style remains simple yet interesting due to that girl/boy allure and her penchant for mixing classic, well established designers such as Chloe and Lanvin with edgier vintage accesories.

  1. The outfits in the those are lovely...and somehow very Parisian. Or is it just an "outsiders" perspective on what Parisian is? I guess you will find out soon...lucky girl!

  11. oelala moving to Paris sounds so exciting! How long will you be staying there?

I'm only going to be in France for two weeks this summer, which is practically no time at all, yet I've been in a French 'mood' for at least three months now, looking up images of brigitte bardot in saint tropez, dreaming of striped shirts.. Not that I actually need an excuse to obsess over anything French related :p

  12. mmr: I know, it's been my dream since I was 11 years old! I'll be there from October to May, maybe throughout next summer if I enjoy it. Where abouts in France are you going? I'd love to go to the South. Love your blog!
